Your gate to sun & sea: Alicante Airport
The airport of Alicante-Elche (previously called El Altet) is currently the 6th largest airport in Spain. Moreover, it is the gateway to the Costa Blanca. Every year, millions of travellers arrive here, the majority of whom are holidaymakers.
Alicante-Elche airport (previously called El Altet) is, as described above, the 6th largest airport in Spain. But it also takes its place in the top 50 of Europe. The airport is owned by the Spanish state-owned company “AENA”, which is also responsible for its management.
Since March 2011, the airport has a completely new terminal, known as the “NAT” (Nueva Area Terminal). This building has 4 floors and has a total of 26 boarding gates. The airport cooperates with more than 40 airline companies.
These airlines offer a wide variety of domestic and international flights.
During 2015, Alicante airport had more than 10.5 million passengers. Most, about 80%, of these passengers come from the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands.
But from Alicante there are also many travellers to and from Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Madrid.
The majority of travellers use Ryanair (+/- 3 million), easyJet (+/- 1.2 million) and Vueling (+/- 1 million) as airline.
Parking and car rental
Opposite the NAT, there is a spacious parking garage, and this is also where you will find the largest car rental companies. For a fee you can park the car here and then walk to the terminal.
In the nearby Carr. de Torrelano, there are several companies that offer parking spaces or where it is also possible to rent a car.
You can reach Alicante airport easily by car via the AP7-A70 motorway or via the N332 coastal road. But there are also several bus routes that ensure a good connection (about every hour).
The majority of travellers opt for transport by taxi. The official taxis can be recognised by a green line over the entire length of the vehicle. They also have a coat of arms of the city of Elche on their doors. The cab stand of the taxi company is located at the arrival hall (floor 0) and at the departure hall (floor 2).
