Javea (Xàbia), originally a fishing village that grew into a tourist pearl, lies between Denia and Calpe. Javea has an extraordinary coastline, a turquoise sea and a fabulous temperature!
Javea can be divided into 3 zones
‘La Villa’, the old town centre, is about 1 km inland. The old narrow streets exude charm. Check out the beautiful, architectural pearls such as the church of Sant Bartomeu and the Capella de Santa Anna. Or visit the fort that was bombarded by cannonballs by pirates (in the 14th century). The walls are still pockmarked with the holes!
‘Duanes del Mar’, the port, consists of a fishing port and a marina. In the morning, the fresh fish is taken from this location to the fish market. It doesn’t get any fresher than that!
‘Playa del Arenal’ is Javea‘s main sandy beach with a beautiful boulevard, shops and restaurants for fine dining. The coastline is about 3 km long and has a pebble beach, ‘La Grava’, to the north.
This beach is less busy because this beach consists of pebbles and rocks. But there is also a splendid boulevard to enjoy.
Nature
Between ‘Playa del Arenal’ and ‘La Grava’, there is a beach with several larger rocks and pebbles and therefore there are fewer tourists. Nevertheless, it is a very charming rocky area.
In the area there is also a beautiful bay, ‘Playa de la Granadella’, and the Montgó mountain.
This 753 meter high mountain can be conquered by using one of several hiking routes, and you can enjoy the great view of Ibiza along the way!
No panic, it is also possible to defy the Montgó by car.
To the north of Javea, under the cliff of ‘Reserva Marina del Calp de Sant Antoni’, the ‘Cova Tallada’ lies hidden. This is a 400 metre long sea cave. The cave was created when rough rock was quarried, a material that the Muslims used when building their castles.
If you wish to visit this site, we recommend taking along a torch.
The town itself is surrounded by pines and is very green, which makes it wonderful to stay here in the very healthy country air.
