Cabo Roig is a small, charming urbanisation located in the south of Orihuela Costa. In addition to a beautiful sandy beach and a marina, there are different residential zones. There is also a variety of restaurants, bars, etc.
From red cape to nibbled promontory
There are many theories and explanations for the name Cabo Roig. On the one hand, Cabo Roig could mean ‘red cape’. This comes from the colour of the cliffs. Especially at dawn and dusk, these cliffs have a marked red tint. But the name is Catalan and not the local Valencian or Castilian.
On the other hand, Cabo Roig could mean nibbled promontory. ‘Cabo’ is the Spanish name for cape or promontory and ‘Roig’ is derived from the verb ‘nibble’ or ‘encroach’.
We find the first theory somewhat more charming …
Fun and leisure
You will certainly not be bored in Cabo Roig. There is the ‘strip’. This promenade has very many restaurants, bars and shops. Hundreds of people come here each day. There is a special atmosphere that can be especially felt in the evenings.
In addition, there are many shopping centres and individual restaurants that are certainly worth a visit. The beaches are great for relaxing. But the marina is also a great place to stay. The adjoining urbanised areas such as La Zenia, Playa Flamenca and Campoamor are all in the immediate vicinity.
Vitamin Sea
The ‘Cala Capitán’ bay has a fine, golden sandy beach. The small ‘Isla del Carmen‘ island divides the ‘Cala Capitán’ into 2 bathing zones. During the summer months, there are lifeguards who take care of safety. In addition, you can rent sun beds and parasols. You can cool off in the sea or the chiringuito (beach bar). The beach is accessible to everyone and there are parking places for the handicapped.
The second bay is ‘Cala Caleta’, which is protected by the headland and therefore the water is very peaceful. The beach borders on the most southern part of the water sport marina in Cabo Roig. From this bay you have a view of the observation tower of Cabo Roig. This tower was of strategic importance against pirate attacks during the 16th century. It has been listed in the monument and historic building register since 1949 and has been fully restored to its former glory.
Puerto Deportivo Marina Cabo Roig
This is the marina of Cabo Roig. It is very popular and has excellent facilities. The marina can take 207 vessels (up to 12 m long and 3 m deep) and all berths are equipped with water and electricity. There is also a crane (12.5 tonnes), an access ramp and services with regard to the weather and radio communication.
After a cruise, you can relax in the club houses that have a restaurant, bar and shower area. Water fans can also get their adrenalin kicks here in this marina. Wake boarding, wind surfing, diving and jet skis are all possible here.
Lomas de Cabo Roig
Lomas de Cabo Roig is a residential area that is part of Cabo Roig. This area is about 2 km from the beach. Various new-build projects have taken place here in recent years. This means that it is a relatively young neighbourhood. This residential area has its own shopping centre. Due to the large influx of house owners, it was decided to build a new shopping centre in 2017.
Property
Property prices vary greatly in Cabo Roig. Naturally, the distance to the beach plays a large role. Villas worth 2 million euros or more at a walking distance from the beach and marina are not exceptional. Prices can fluctuate sharply in the area of the ‘strip’. This is due, on the one hand, to the view (ocean view) and, on the other hand, to the presence of many bars and restaurants.
With respect to the whole of the Costa Blanca, the property prices for the Lomas de Cabo Roig area are average, although there are exceptions here as well. We do suspect that the prices will go up with the arrival of the new shopping centre.
