Beaches of Torrevieja
Torrevieja has 20km of coast, with many white sandy beaches (playas) and cliffs (calas). The beaches of Torrevieja are very well accessible and are indicated throughout the city.
Signs indicate which services the beaches have, services such as foot showers, children’s play area, first aid zones, rescue services and a possibility of renting sun loungers and umbrellas.
Between each beach there are a number of cliffs (calas) where you can sunbathe and dive in a quiet area. Torrevieja has some extraordinary coral reefs.
La Mata beach
This is Torrevieja’s longest beach. Due to its fine golden sands and very pleasant location (surrounded by La Mata Natural Park) this is a very high quality beach. This long beach is from Cabo Cervera until the end of La Mata. It has a really long esplanade which runs all along the beach, where you can visit many chiringuitos and restaurants.
La Mata beach is 2300m long and 40m width.
Playa de los Locos
It owes its name –the madmen beach- to an old mental hospital which was located in the past next to this beach.
Gold fine sand, low waves and azure water are the characteristics of this beach. To the north it is surrounded by small cliffs that reach up to Cabo Cervera. This beach is adapted for people with poor mobility.
The beach features a playground and the possibility of renting sun loungers and umbrellas. Playa de los Locos has also 4 surveillance towers, 4 lifeguards right on the seafront, a first aid station and 2 health-workers-lifeguards as well as many bars and restaurants.
Playa de los Locos is 760m long and 25m width.
Playa del Cura
This is the most popular beach, as it is integrated within the town’s urban area. The beach has a possibility of renting sun loungers and umbrellas.
Playa del Cura has a nice and recently renovated seafront surrounded by palm trees, full of bars, souvenir shops, ice-cream parlours and restaurants.
On the paseo at playa del cura there is always a lot to experience!
Playa del Cura is 325m long and 27m width.
Paseo Maritimo Juan Aparicio
This stretch of coastline is almost entirely made up of large rocky blocks. Here, however, two artificial beaches have been created. These pieces of artificial beach are almost completely enclosed by concrete quays, allowing you to swim safely without having to bother with waves.
Playa del Acequion
Located at the port, this is a long stretch of beach with fine white sand. On this stretch of beach you will find numerous fishing boats and beach huts. As it’s an urban beach there are high rise apartment buildings standing right next to the sand, and bar and restaurant terraces make beach dining an attractive possibility.
Playa del Acequion is 900m long.
Playa de los Naufragos
Protected by the southern dock of the port, this is one of Torrevieja’s most active and sporty beaches with a wide range of activities. The seawater is very clean and the color of the sand is almost white. The surrounding area is characterized by Torrevieja’s salt lakes and lagoons. Playa de los Naufragos has 3 surveillance towers, 3 lifeguards right on the seafront, a disabled-adapted bathing chair and a first aid station.
Playa de los Naufragos is 325m long and 77m width.
